Martial Arts for handicapped people

We offer a concept which is developed especially for handicapped people. The concept is guided pedagogicaly and is tested successfully.

Our offer

Self-esteem is characterized by acceptance of your strong and weak points and the use of your strength to achieve your set goal. Disabled people have the possibility to accept their weakness as a challenge and not as an unsuperable limit. Thus they become self-confident because they learn to believe in their own abilities.

The question “what shall we do, if we are threatened or pestered?” is often asked and shall be answered by this developed learning-course.

Moreover the handicapped people get rid of bad experiences combined with the anxiousness. During the training the participants are able to relax and to develop a feeling for the group. Together we created a trustful learning-atmosphere.

While we are preparing in the training, the following main focuses are done:
Sensibility for the problem of violence

  • Watchfulness
  • Attention
  • Language of the body
  • Appropriate behaviour
  • Prevention
  • De-escalation
  • Subjective feeling of security of girls and women
  • Self-confidence
  • Self-defence
  • Understandable language

I adjust to the given conditions and the cognitive level of the participants to achieve an ergonomic support, especially as an individual aid for the wheelchair user.

During the course I will go through different situations with the participants, which are likely to happen in reality, too. What have I to do, if I am attacked, if someone reaches for my pocket, if I am yelled at, if someone pulls me away by grabbing my wrist etc ?

To handle the situations, the participants have to make use of a certain mimic, body language, gesture and communication of the eyes. Another important part of the lessons is that the disabled people have to get familiar with their own deficits. They have to coordinate their movements. Therefore I created a new language which can be used by the disabled people as well.

Own experiences

I handle, support and integrate physically and mentally disabled people in my association Mushin e. V. Bad Oldesloe professionally. Therefore I have used this subject for my final pedagogical examination.
The participants of the course take part in the course with interest. In this way their wishes, questions and inhibitions are discussed and solved.
The participants view the course not only as a profit of their new self-judgement and the self-confirmation of their own performance, moreover they are double-satisfied by the integration in the common training lessons in our association. They get to know other people and a new environment, and it fills them with joy. They look upon the learning course as a change so that they can free themselves from their monotonous daily routine. On top of that they get acquainted with a new sport in another social structure. Further more they can train and develop their abilities.
After the beginning of the new integration and support of handicapped people by our sport I realize a clear improvement of the social manners of all participants. They got rid of the feeling to be separated and discriminated and look upon themselves as essential part of the group. The aggressions which are not seldom piled up by handicapped people, could be soothed by the atmosphere of the course and by the sport itself
